Corona outbreak has brought in a slow down and even shut down in lots of social and economic activities. Social gatherings, functions are being cancelled or postponed, businesses have been closed temporarily and most of the people are choosing to stay with in the premises of their homes and not venturing out much to prevent themselves from getting infected.

In these times when people are self-quarantining themselves, having a home is of utmost importance. To ensure that all the renters stay protected and safe, NHMC has come up with a set of guidelines for the apartment owners:

Stop evictions for 90 days:
Those residents who have their source of income disrupted by the COVID 19 must not be evicted for 90 days so that they can cope with the health and economic challenge posed due to this pandemic better

Do not increase the rent for 90 days:
With their income getting reduced or disrupted, many renters are already struggling to pay their current rent, an increase might make the housing un-affordable for them.

Create Payment Plans:
Apartment owners must help renters who have their source of income disrupted by creating convenient payment plans and must waive off the late payment penalty.

Identify governmental and community resources:
To help the residents who are grappling with serious economic issues due to the pandemic, apartment owners should educate the renters about the food, financial aid and health care programs run by the government and community organizations

Communicate with residents:
Interact with the residents and try to restore their confidence by telling them how industry is doing its best to help them retain their homes

Develop a response plan:
Prepare a plan to cope with up this outbreak and do your bit for the betterment of the community.
